A "stubborn" fever that kept former US President George HW Bush in a hospital over Christmas has gotten worse, and doctors have put him on a liquids-only diet, his spokesman has said.
"It's an elevated fever, so it's actually gone up in the last day or two," spokesman Jim McGrath said. "It's a stubborn fever that won't go away."
Doctors ran tests and were treating the fever with Tylenol, but they still hadn't nailed down a cause, Mr McGrath said. Doctors also have put Mr Bush on a liquid diet.
The bronchitis-like cough that initially brought Mr Bush to the hospital has improved.
