A BRITISH teenager has died after she and her American boyfriend allegedly shot dead a US police officer.
Hollinghurst is understood to have been born in Britain and lived in the North West before moving to America around six years ago.
Grace Etchells, who went to primary school with her in Hadfield, Derbyshire, paid tribute to her on Twitter.
She wrote: "So horrible knowing a very close friend from primary Alex Hollinghurst sadly got taken from us in such horrific circumstances. RIP lovely xx."
The shootings took place in the early hours of Saturday morning in the wealthy residential suburb of Windermere.
US officials said Windermere Police Department Officer Robert German was killed after stopping the teenagers on foot and calling for backup.
When assistance arrived they discovered the officer had been shot. He was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Centre, where he was pronounced dead.
The officer had served with the force for five years.
In a statement on its website, the police department paid tribute to German: "The entire law enforcement community and the town of Windermere are mourning the loss of Officer Robert German. Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers are with Officer German's family during this difficult time. We ask that you give the Windermere Police Department, our officers and the family time to get through this tragedy."
