A 12-year-old boy has stabbed a nine-year-old boy at a playground in Michigan, sending the child to a hospital.
TV stations WOOD and WZZM reported the stabbing happened yesterday evening in Kentwood, near Grand Rapids.
Glen Stacey, who lives nearby, told The Grand Rapids Press that the older boy approached him after the stabbing and asked to use his phone.
Mr Stacey said the boy called police to report the attack. He says he also called police and described the boy as "very calm".
Police said the nine-year-old was stabbed in the back and the reason for the stabbing was not immediately known.
Police refused to release details of the condition of the injured child. Officers took the older boy into custody to question him.
