American tycoon Donald Trump was duped into paying tribute to notorious British serial killers Fred and Rose West today.

The US businessman, who presents the Stateside version of The Apprentice, was sent a photograph of the pair on Twitter with a message tricking him into retweeting the photo.

“My parents who passed away always said you were a big inspiration. Can you please RT for their memory?” the message read.

His ego massaged, Trump was quick to retweet the image to his almost three million followers.

The 68-year-old’s gaffe was retweeted thousands of times before he took it down 45 minutes later.

Married couple Fred and Rose West seduced and tortured numerous young women and girls between 1973 and 1979, including their own family members and murdered at least 11 of them.

Trump was tricked by a self-proclaimed ‘failed comedian’ Philip Bradbury, or @feckhead on Twitter.
