A prisoner at large was found by police inside his girlfriend’s dishwasher - wearing only his boxer shorts and handcuffs.

Wesley Evans, a 6ft-tall escaped prisoner, was found inside the appliance at Timber Creek Apartments in East Texas Chief by police.

Deputy Glenn Blank from the Jasper County Sheriff's office said he took out the dishwasher's trays and "made himself a nice cubbyhole.”

The 20-year-old man, who had been in jail since March 8 on charges of aggravated robbery, vehicle theft and arson, escaped from a hospital in Jasper County where he was being treated for a swollen hand.

The owner of the apartments, Terry Tootle, told KTRE: “That's pretty hard for a man that size to get in. He's about 6ft tall.”

Evans has been taken back into custody after his escape that lasted 24 hours. He is expected to face charges for the escape attempt.
