Al-Jazeera gets access to US with Gore sale

AL Gore, the US Vice-President under Bill Clinton and climate change crusader, has sold the TV station he founded to Al Jazeera for $500m (€383m).

The price tag represents an eightfold increase from the $60m (€46m) Mr Gore and his partners paid in 2004 for the channel, Current TV.

The deal gives Al-Jazeera access to tens of millions of US homes, a development that has caused some disquiet.

The nation's second-largest TV operator, Time Warner Cable, dropped Current after the deal was confirmed.
