THE owners of a company that supplied the "fake" sign language interpreter for Nelson Mandela's memorial event have disappeared, a South African minister said today.

Minister Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu said they had vanished as she apologised to the deaf community for the poor quality given by Thamsanqa-Jantjie from SA Interpreters.

Earlier Mr Dyantyi had blamed his flawed interpretation at the event on a schizophrenic episode.

He was employed to stand on stage next to the main speakers, including US president, Barack Obama, and translate their eulogies.

However, the Minister added that he had been properly accredited there had been no security issue.
