Nike suspends 'Blade Runner' contract

Nike has suspended its contract with Paralympian Oscar Pistorius (inset).

"We believe Oscar Pistorius should be afforded due process and we will continue to monitor the situation closely," the sports firm said in a brief statement on its website.

On Monday, eyewear maker Oakley suspended its contract with Mr Pistorius, who is accused of murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine's Day.

Nike dropped Lance Armstrong in October, citing insurmountable evidence that he participated in doping.

But the US-based firm stood by Tiger Woods after he acknowledged infidelities and went to rehab for sex addiction.

Double-amputee Mr Pistorius, who runs on carbon-fibre blades, is a multiple Paralympic medalist.
