Lostprophets' lead singer Ian Watkins

Steps singer Ian H Watkins has pleaded with people to stop abusing him after he was mistaken for Lostprophets paedophile Ian Watkins.

The singer, who has the unfortunate burden of sharing the same name as the paedophile, has been plagued by abuse on an official Facebook site.

The pop singer had already posted a message on his Twitter saying he was going to "take a break" from the social networking site following abuse mistakenly sent to himself rather than the former Lostprophets singer.

Last night, a post on the singer’s official Facebook page read: “Just to clear out some of the abuse there has been the past few hours... This is the 'Official Ian H Watkins' website.”

“Better known as H from Steps. H is in NO WAY related with the news about the singer from Lostprophets!”

“Please don't post any comments about the news here because they will be deleted. Thank you!”

Messages posted on the Facebook page included death threats calling him "dirty vile scum".

The pop singer hasn’t specified when he'll be returning to Twitter.
