6.6-magnitude quake hits Vanuatu

Vanuatu has reportedly been hit by a 6.6-magnitude earthquake

The South Pacific island nation of Vanuatu has been hit by a 6.6-magnitude earthquake, according to t he US Geological Survey.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries and the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said no tsunami warning was in effect.

The USGS report said the quake epicentre was 23 miles (37km) west of the village of Sola and 275 miles (443km) north of the capital, Port Vila, at a depth of 122 miles ( 196km).

The islands are on the Pacific "Ring of Fire" an arc of volcanoes and fault lines in the Pacific Basin.
