Three people have been arrested after police in Thailand confiscated 5.3 million methamphetamine tablets in one of the largest such seizures in the country in recent years.
Police General Somyot Pumpanmuang said narcotics suppression officers arrested a suspected drug dealer last night with 3 million methamphetamine pills in Petchabun province in central Thailand.
He said the seizure was a follow-up to a bust last week in which two other members of the same drug network were arrested and 2.3 million tablets found.
Authorities said the drugs were originally from Burma and were smuggled in to north-east Thailand through Laos. They were destined for clients in Bangkok and neighbouring provinces.
Thailand is a leading market and transit point for methamphetamine, much of which is produced in neighbouring Burma.
