10 police killed in Taliban attack
Deputy interior minister General Mohammed Ayub Solangi said the early morning attack in the eastern Nangarhar provincial capital of Jalalabad involved a suicide bomber, two remotely detonated bombs and seven insurgents.
He said the attack triggered a gunbattle with the Afghan forces that lasted four hours.
When it was over, 10 policemen, including the district police chief, were dead, as well as the civilian, a student who was caught in the crossfire.
Mr Solangi said all seven insurgents were killed.
The Taliban took responsibility for the attack, the latest in a series of insurgent assaults ahead of next month's presidential elections.
