LIZ’S LUNCH: An annual corporate fundraiser to help Adi Roche’s life-saving work with Chernobyl Children International

In what has become an annual event, over two hundred supporters of Adi Roche’s Chernobyl Children International (CCI) came out in force today, Friday 21st March, to raise funds. The event was hosted by Former Minister for Overseas Development Liz O’Donnell at Fire Restaurant and Lounge in Dawson Street.

Along with Adi Roche, Founder and CEO of CCI, and fellow board Directors Ali Hewson and talent agent and Businessman Noel Kelly, Liz O’Donnell welcomed the guests, which comprised a mix of corporate, professional services and media sectors.

The guest list included celebrities such as Dave Fanning, Lisa Fitzpatrick, Pat Kenny, Morah Ryan, Aidan Power, Jenny Buckley, Karl Henry and Noel and Catriona Kelly.

Thanks to generous sponsorship by Eircom, M&S and donations of raffle and auction items from individuals and businesses, guests had the opportunity to bid for an array of auction items, including a painting by Robert Shaw, a rare signed ten inch record of Golden Globe winning "Ordinary Love" signed by Bono (donated by Ali Hewson) and a package of concert tickets including a pair of One Direction tickets donated by Caroline Downey MCD.

Speaking at the event, Liz O’Donnell said,

"Almost 28 years on, the effects of the Chernobyl accident are still real with high levels of thyroid cancers and genetic birth defects such as a heart condition called ‘Chernobyl Heart’. By supporting CCI today you are funding life-saving operations as the funds raised will pay for a cardiac mission whereby children who would otherwise die will be saved by our surgeons."
