For the super-stylist Guido Palau , grungy yet polished hair - as he created for Alexander Wang's spring/summer 2014 show - is a favourite.

"I want the hair to have a natural, somewhat 'bed-head' look," he says. "It's meant to seem like you haven't tried at all." But you have, of course, and it's a style that enhances every cut and colour.

To recreate this yourself, prep the hair with Bumble and Bumble's Surf Foam Wash Shampoo and Surf Creme Rinse Conditioner (£18.50 and £20, ). These will leave the hair with a slightly matte texture that's easy to style.

Towel-dry, then apply some of Balmain's Volume Mousse Strong (£18.95, ) to the roots. This will provide body and help to hold the style. Rough-blow-dry the hair to give it texture, then create a middle parting.

Finish by spraying Redken's Shine Flash 02 Glistening Mist (£11.75, ) from roots to ends and twist small sections of hair to give it a soft, natural wave.
