It's a season of contrasts with grunge, minimalism and the boy-meets-girl look, but last night it was the vibrant, uplifting colours which stole our hearts, with an amazing crimson tide of delicious reds at the Brown Thomas press preview fashion show.
Reds and other brights like orange are the big story for autumn and winter, explained Brown Thomas fashion director Shelly Corkery. And on cue, model Laragh McCann took to the catwalk in a Christian Dior orange ruffle dress (€1,880) with Valentino pink and nude rock stud shoes (€670). Fast on her heel, Eve Connolly wore a Christian Dior hot pink wool crepe coat (€2,700) and the same 'must have' Valentino shoes but in black and nude.
There is a waiting list internationally for the matching Valentino rock stud bag (€1,320) so when Eve appeared with one in nude, it triggered a frisson of excitement and marked interest in the return of the 'IT' bag, a phenomenon that disappeared with the Celtic Tiger but is clearly making a return.
