A cancelled holiday threw up some surprises as I spent seven days on staycation in my native Dublin, instead of raiding the shops in Manhattan.
I discovered all sorts of gems in my own backyard, including free parking (I'm staying schtum on that one), cute teashops, monkeys playing billiards a few hundred feet from the Dail, and a cache of ' Mad Men' clothes patterns that sent me running for my old sewing machine.
On the bargains front, I struck gold and a bright cloud came out on an otherwise overcast bank holiday. I headed to Carrickmines to buy a steamer, but ended up in TK Maxx buying a faux stranded mink.
After snapping up glass decorations, I strayed into the partywear section and found tags with up to 60pc off well-known brands, from designer catwalk collections to high-street labels.
The looks are not dated and you'll find all the key trends on the rails, especially peplum, sequins and lace. Around the corner, there are stilettos and clutches.
However, I'm combing the other TK Maxx branches for some amazing Ralph Lauren leather boots.
It's the chase that's half the fun, don't you think?
