Kennedy wows with the 'Amy factor'

Louise Red Silk Dress, and Yasmin Red Lace Dress

If the royal wedding has taught us anything, it's the impact that 20-something women have on the fashion industry.

Lace has become the 'fabric du jour' in the aftermath of Kate Middleton's choice of wedding dress -- the lace used in the Duchess's wedding dress had its origins in Co Monaghan.

And now the love affair with romantic Chantilly lace has spread to cocktail and day dresses of which there were many in Louise Kennedy's sophisticated new collection showcased at her Merrion Square townhouse yesterday.

And let's not forget the 'Amy factor'. Actress Amy Huberman wore 'Yasmin', one of Louise's guipure lace dresses in vibrant pink to the royal wedding and the reaction was "phenomenal" the designer reports, bringing in a new demographic of younger customers.

"We've had such a positive reaction, I've never seen so many of Amy's age group shopping with us," said Louise, who dedicated her new V-necked scalloped lace dress to Amy.

The autumn-winter 2011 collection celebrates the life of artist and fashion icon Tamara de Lempicka. Many of the colours in the dresses and separates feature in the artist's iconic art deco paintings like 'Femme a Guitare', with its vibrant purple dress.

Models created a circular catwalk around Louise's Georgian hallway which was bedecked with calla lilies, the artist's favourite flowers.

Prices start at €595 for a jersey dress. Fabrics include luxurious double-faced cashmere, lurex tweeds and deluxe velvet.
