Brown Thomas launch "feminine" spring/summer collection

You can mix up the colours, prints and fashion designer labels, but there is one common denominator on the style front this year  and that’s femininity.

The launch of the Brown Thomas Spring/Summer 2014 collections at the Grafton Street store yesterday was an homage to all things feminine, served up at a breakfast show where fashion queens whetted tand honed their appetites for newness, major trends and equally delicious micro trends.

Headline grabbing designer Victoria Beckham this season took up the baton from her hubbie David and discovered her sporty side. Leaving behind body con preoccupations, she worked a lot in grey and layered up sensationally in ivory cream with a very strong cami dress with double layered peplum over long ‘shorts trousers’ that fall below the knee.

Victoria  served up an ace with a black belted dress that had resonances of a tennis dress but with a fun hemline.

For the female to likes florals and form, it’s hard to pass Mary Katrantzou and Peter Pilotto.  A genius at digital prints, the BT’s show opened with a standout Mary Katrantzou dress boasting a playful racer-back and blossom print top half  over a generously pleated full skirt with trellis print.

For the female who craves seductive colour, French designing heart throb Roland Mouret didn’t fail and his electric blues possess head turning qualities while his backs have memorable details like tumbling cowls.

The strong woman will appreciate the tailored shoulders in cream from Chloe, worn with chiffon and a draped jacket with glorious back feature of bow tying at the back.

A black ‘power suit’ packed with femininity came from Albert Elbaz at Lanvin and its exaggerated, puffy peplum waist standing out over a narrow skirt had a masterly whiff of sexuality. Meanwhile,  Lanvin’s shiny lame shirt and skirt was pure drama in metallic raspberry.

The sophisticated lady is dressed to perfection by Dolce & Gabbana and a yellow coat with diamante buttons swiftly won hearts in the 90 piece runway show. Coat- loving women should check out Marni’s floral duster coat which works am-pm qualities and a Carven rock a ladylike coat in memorable powder blue.

The supremely elegant, but low key bride can achieve 'aisle perfection' in a cream chiffon short dress with floating shoulder scarf detail by Saint Laurent and the St Tropez woman can find her 70s fix in a cream tux trouser suit by Givenchy. Bare chested like the model yesterday, is entirely optional!

The woman with great legs will welcome the return of hi-low hemlines, with Erdem, Saint Laurent Paris and Stella McCartney delivering them with impact. Play to your artistic side with art pop prints from Phoebe Philo at Celine and Prada.

Pleats turn up a lot this season, knifepleats and delicate at Dior to ethereal at Chloe. Colour wise, expect your wardrobe to fill with pleasing pastels, subtle pinks and cool peppermints.
