One of the most common questions I get asked is: 'Can I target just one area of my body?' And the answer, I'm afraid, is no.
The body is a complex machine that needs to be worked as a whole. So when building your gym programme, you need to ensure that you include all the body parts in that programme.
Yes, you can add in an extra exercise for the part that annoys you the most, but make sure you have everything else covered, too.
For example, if you want more definition on the back of your arms, by training all the body you will be increasing the amount of lean muscle tissue on your body, which will help to reduce body fat and give you more definition all over – including the back of your arms.
This is even more relevant when it comes to the stomach area. Sit-ups will NOT give you a flat stomach; cutting down on white carbs, increasing brown carbs, upping water intake and doing resistance and cardiovascular exercise will.
The reality is that we all have six-packs – it is what covers them that makes the difference. That layer of fat needs to be worked off through exercise and diet changes.
So remember, your gym workouts should target your whole body, not just one area, otherwise, they won't be effective.
