16 months after splitting up, the couple are set to divorce
It's taken 16 months, one rehab stint and a lot of column inches, but Demi Moore is finally filing for divorce from Ashton Kutcher.
According to the New York Post, the actress has been trying to reach a confidential settlement, but became sick of the process and is now willing for it to go to trial.
“Ashton made a lot of money after marrying Demi — a lot more than she made — but despite him becoming just as famous through her, he believes he doesn’t owe her that much," a source told Page Six. "She has had enough.”
According to insiders, the couple's fraught relationship became even more tense during negotiations, and Ashton, who is the highest paid actor on television thanks to his starring role on Two and a Half Men, began stalling the talks.
“Ashton has been very difficult during the talks,” the insider said. “After over a year of attempting to reach a settlement, Demi is definitely ready to move on. It’s hoped lawyers for both sides can reach a settlement this spring, otherwise the divorce will go into litigation and trial.”
And it seems as if Demi is determined to put a negative 2012, which also saw Kutcher begin a relationship with Mila Kunis, behind her. “She is healthy and happy, and just wants to move on with her life."
