RTE presenter Daithi O Se is celebrating his wife Rita Talty's pregnancy, just weeks after his father died.

The Today host, who spoke openly and honestly about his devastation at losing his father, is finally enjoying some good news since announcing he was to become a father for the first time.

"Something is stirring," he said in an exclusive interview, featured in today's Sunday Independent, "Rita is expecting our first child."

"The light at the end of the tunnel is shining brighter now.

"Dad knew the news and was over the moon.

"It's a pity they'll never meet, though."

Rita, who competed as the New Jersey Rose at the Rose of Tralee pageant in 2010, spoke of her excitement at her pregnancy.

"It's great news for us," she added.

"We are incredibly excited."

Ms Talty is due to give birth next March.

Daithi's father Maidhc Dainin O Se (71) passed away suddenly  at the family home in Carrachan, Ballydavid, in west Kerry last month.

He was one of the most prolific writers in the Irish language and had published 19 books, some of which were translated into English.
