Yvonne Keating goes for black tie as she steps out with son Jack at The Hobbit premiere
* Host of Irish stars hit the red carpet for last night’s screening
THE red carpet was rolled out for the Irish premiere of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug – and it was strictly a family affair.
Some of Ireland’s best-known faces arrived for the screening, held at the Savoy Cinema on Dublin’s O’Connell Street last night, and leading the way was model mum Yvonne Keating.
The mother-of-three played chaperone to her 14-year-old son Jack, who brought along three friends, and said she was looking forward to spending the rest of the evening helping actress daughter Missy prepare for an audition.
“I’ll be sitting down with her later to go over lines ahead of an audition on Friday. We can’t say what it is though,” Yvonne told the Herald.
RTE presenter Blathnaid Ni Chofaigh was accompanied by her husband Trevor and their two sons, while TV3 host Martin King and Jenny McCarthy also arrived with their children in tow.
Prime Time anchor Miriam O’Callaghan decided to skip the occasion and gave her tickets to daughter Jessica McGurk, who enjoyed a romantic evening out with boyfriend Michael Harte.
The movie features two Irish actors – James Nesbitt and Aidan Turner. Although they were unable to attend last night as the cast are currently on a promotional tour of Europe, Aidan was well represented back in his home town.
Proud dad Pearse Turner told the Herald of his delight to see Aidan, who plays Kili in the movie, on the silver screen. “I’m just so happy for him – his career is going so well,” Pearse said.
With another instalment set for release in cinemas next year, Pearse said he’s hoping the makers of The Hobbit: There and Back Again will pick Dublin for the official European premiere.
