The Oscar-winning actress was arrested for disorderly conduct when she drunkenly refused to stay in the car while her husband was given a field sobriety test and demanded of the police officer: "Do you know my name?" He husband Jim Toth was charged with driving under the influence.

In video of the incident which took place in the early hours of April 19 in Atlanta, posted by the website TMZ, the 37-year-old actress seeks to intercede as her husband is being administered a field sobriety test by the trooper.

Trooper First Class J Pyland repeatedly tells Witherspoon to stay in the car. Witherspoon is equally determined to get out and engage him, even at one point feigning to be pregnant.

The Georgia State Patrol says it did not release the video from a state trooper's dash-camera. The video was first obtained by the celebrity website TMZ and rebroadcast by other news media.

Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright said the video would be officially released soon. He told The Associated Press no one from his agency leaked the video, and the only copy that had been made earlier was for the prosecutor.

Witherspoon appeared on ABC's Good Morning America to apologise for her behaviour, and admitted she was very embarrassed by the incident.

The actress has entered a plea of no contest to physical obstruction of another and will pay a fine of 213 dollars.

Her husband pled guilty to driving under the influence, and must perform 40 hours of community service and attend an alcohol education program. He's been placed on probation for 12 months.
