Ed Weeks has joked that none of his Mindy Project co-stars take him seriously - because of his British accent.

The 33-year-old actor, who reprises his role as Dr Jeremy Reed in the hit comedy, admitted he is considered the "fool", as he joined his castmates at PaleyFest in Los Angeles.

"I thought just because I have a British accent, people would listen to me, but they still think I'm a fool - albeit a handsome one," he quipped.

Ed also joked about enjoying the free alcohol and wanting a payrise for being on the show.

"I love all the free booze - big fan of that," he joked, before adding: "They're the greatest bunch of people to work with.

"We all improvise a lot and I've learnt so much from them. Mindy and I are amazing improvisers and working alongside Chris Messina, I want to gush needlessly but they're all the best people I've ever met."

The show's creator Mindy Kaling (Dr Mindy Lahiri) took to the stage for the panel at Hollywood's Dolby Theatre with her co-stars including Chris (Dr Danny Castellano), Ike Barinholtz (nurse Morgan Tookers) and Beth Grant (receptionist Beverly Janoszewski) to launch the second half of the second series, which returns to US screens in April.

Beth revealed she enjoys playing outspoken Beverly.

"I'm basically a nice person. I was raised in the south where good manners were the most important thing in the world so I am really repressed, and it's really fun to play somebody who is not. Sometimes I say things I would never say, but I think, 'That really is Beverly'," she said.

The second series of The Mindy Project is expected to return to E4 in the summer.
