TV presenter Melanie Sykes has reportedly ended her marriage to Jack Cockings after just seven months.
The couple are reportedly on a ‘trial separation’, according to The Sun on Sunday.
“The age difference just became too much. It's not a case of Mel ending the marriage because Jack called the police. But what happened was obviously an indication that things weren't right,” a source said.
“It's hard to see how they're going to be able to make the marriage work. The pressure has just been too intense.”
The news comes less than a fortnight after Melanie (43) was arrested for assault on her 28-year-old husband.
It is believed roofer Cockings called police after the argument.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said last week: “We were called to a residential address in Hampstead at 9.45pm following reports of an assault.
“A woman, 43, was arrested on suspicion of common assault and taken to a police station. She has since been given a caution for common assault.”
It has been reported that the couple have not seen each other since the incident.
The pair met each other through social media last year when they exchanged a series of steamy tweets to one another in full public view.
Melanie raised eyebrows when she tweeted that she had “the giddiest knickers of my life”.
They got engaged in August 2012 and tied the knot in May of this year.
On Friday, Melanie thanked her fans online, writing; "A huge thank you to all my supporters who are smart enough to not believe everything they read in the papers. I love you guys. Xxxxxxxxxxxxx"
