The pair, who starred in Martin Scorsese's New York, New York in 1977, embraced each other at the opening night premiere of documentary Mistaken For Strangers.

Robert - who co-founded the festival with Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff - was also joined by Mira Sorvino, Josh Lucas, Riley Keogh and Ari Graynor at the low-key premiere, which was dedicated to the people of Boston after the deadly explosions at the Boston Marathon on April 15.

The Oscar-winning Raging Bull star introduced the opening night film, a "small, lo-fi" musical documentary made about Brooklyn indie rock band The National.

Made by Tom Berninger, the younger brother of the band's lead singer Matt, the movie follows his experience as a roadie as the group toured around Europe and chronicles the siblings' relationship.

The National performed at an after-party at the Highland Ballroom after the screening.

Emma Roberts' Adult World will have its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, alongside Paul Rudd and Paul Giamatti's comedy Almost Christmas, Justin Long's romantic comedy A Case Of You and Neil LaBute's drama Some Velvet Morning with Stanley Tucci and Alice Eve.

The Tribeca Film Festival, now in its 12th year, will run to April 28.
