Tom Cruise bringing Hollywood glam to Dublin
The A-list actor is visiting our shores later this month
It's time to roll out the red carpet. One of the world’s biggest stars, Tom Cruise, is set to bring some Tinseltown glamour to O’Connell Street later this month.
The star will be walking the red carpet at Dublin's Savoy cinema for the Irish premiere of upcoming movie sci-fi flick Oblivion. And single Tom (50) will be joined by beautiful brunette and sultry Bond Girl Olga Kurylenko.
Universal pictures Ireland announced yesterday that Top Gun star will be attending the Irish screening of the film. “We're thrilled that Tom Cruise and Olga Kurylenko are coming to Dublin for the premiere of Oblivion,” said a Universal spokesperson.
Earlier this year, Steven Spielberg, Sally Field and Daniel Day-Lewis walked the red carpet in Dublin at the Irish premiere of Lincoln. But it looks like the Oblivion premiere will trump the star-studded event.
Cruise is renowned for spending hours wandering the red carpet; chatting with fans posing for photos and signing autographs. It is thought that hordes of Cruise fans will flock to O’Connell Street hoping to catch a glimpse of the actor.
“This is set to be one of the biggest film premieres ever held in Ireland and we're very excited at the prospect of hosting it,” the Universal spokesperson continued. We look forward to extending them both the very warm welcome that the Irish are famous for.”
It's a pretty big coup given that Cruise is one of the highest earning actors and biggest stars on the planet. It is thought the star earned over €57m last year. Oblivion tells the story of a veteran soldier sent to a distant planet, where he has to destroy the remains of an alien race.
Cruise spent several months in Kerry and Dublin filming Far And Away back in 1992 with his then wife Nicole Kidman. This will be his first time back in Ireland and, according to sources, he cannot wait to return. And French beauty Olga and Cruise aren't the only Hollywood A-listers to be gracing Irish shores.
Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain is shooting period drama Miss Julie – a play written by August Strindberg – and is slated for filming in Co Fermanagh next month. It will also star Colin Farrell. It will be Colin's first time working at home since he shot Ondine in West Cork. It is believed to be filmed in the quiet town on Enniskillen and will undoubtedly give the locals plenty to talk about.
Coincidentally, Colin starred with Tom in 2002 hit film Minority Report and the pair got on famously – |perhaps it’s time for a |catch-up?
