'The Hunger Games' eats competition alive at award ceremony

'THE Hunger Games' devoured the competition at the People's Choice Awards, emerging as the top victor with five trophies.

The awards single out the top talent from the world of the arts and popular culture. Fans select the winners in categories like music, movies and TV.

'The Hunger Games' was named favourite movie, action movie and movie franchise, while stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth had fans' 'favourite on-screen chemistry'. Lawrence also won favourite movie actress and 'face of heroism'.

Katy Perry was the fans' favourite female artist and pop artist. Her video for 'Part of Me' also won.

There was also an Irish interest with Siva Kaneswaren of The Wanted in attendance; the band won the award for best break-through act.

Sandra Bullock picked up the show's first favourite humanitarian award for her efforts in New Orleans.

Actress Kaley Cuoco hosted the ceremony at the Nokia Theatre, where performers included Christina Aguilera, Jason Aldean and Alicia Keys.

• Country artist: Taylor Swift

• Breakout artists: The Wanted

• People's voice: Christina Aguilera

• Humanitarian: Sandra Bullock
