JUST when you think you’ve seen it all, prepare for gardener Diarmuid Gavin in Speedos.
We have seen dancing, skating and singing, but reality TV is about to go deeper – literally.
In the latest reality offering, 15 celebrities will be taking a dive for a new show Splash, set to make waves this year.
Since the UK’s Big Brother hit our screens in 2000, we have seen everything from DIY to sport to sewing.
Splash will see a host of familiar names donning their swimwear to compete in the ITV diving competition, hosted by Vernon Kay and Gabby Logan.
Taking the plunge for Ireland is gardening expert Diarmuid Gavin, who previously starred in a Christmas special of Celebrity Come Dine With Me.
The show will follow Dubliner Diarmuid (48) and his fellow contestants as he they learn to dive from 10m.
They will be mentored by British Olympic diving star Tom Daley.
Despite the daunting task, Diarmuid is looking forward to the challenge, according to his niece, model Holly Carpenter.
“I was talking to him on Christmas Eve and he's already been over there and met Joey Essex and some of the contestants,” Holly told the Evening Herald.
“He's excited and really looking forward to it, it's not like anything he's done before.”
While Diarmuid has no diving experience, he is a keen swimmer and often visits the Forty Foot in Dublin.
“It's a big challenge, but he's going to give it a go,” said Holly. “I certainly wouldn't do it.”
Olympic diver Tom Daley will mentor the stars and says that the contestants will find the sport difficult to master.
“Once you're up there, there is no turning back. If you freak out, you freak out on live TV.
“You'll see lots of smacks and wallops,” he added. And bravery is a key quality for a diver, according to 18-year-old Tom, who added: “You are half-naked in front of an audience of millions.”
Also included in the line-up are TV host Charlotte Jackson, Changing Rooms presenter Linda Barker, comics Omid Djalili and Helen Lederer, presenter Jenni Falconer and ski jumper Eddie the Eagle.
