Steve Martin has opened up about his baby girl, two months after it was confirmed he has become a dad for the first time at 67.
The star of Parenthood and Father Of The Bride couldn't help joking around as he appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman and talked for the first time about how he was finding fatherhood.
Steve said: "It's going great because I have a wonderful wife and mother." When the audience laughed, he added: "I'm paying her a compliment - everything is funny when I try to be serious!"
Steve brought a baby monitor to the interview, which he put on Letterman's desk, and quipped: "The baby's back at the hotel and I'm a responsible dad."
When various noises came through the speaker, including a barking dog and a car alarm, Steve joked: "I think I left the window open!"
He also claimed he had called his daughter Conquistador, the name given to soldiers and explorers in the ancient Spanish Empire.
Steve said: "We've thought about the name quite a bit. Conquistador. What do you think? I didn't want to go with one of those Hollywood weird names. Conquistador is a statement."
"Conquistador" is the first child for Steve and his 41-year-old wife Anne Stringfield, who married in 2007. The actor was previously married to actress Victoria Tennant from 1986 to 1994.
