US TV shows Smash, Small Town Security and The New Normal are among the nominees for this year's Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) Media Awards.

Musical show Smash is up for best drama series at the awards, which recognise outstanding images of the gay and lesbian community. The New Normal - co-created by Glee's Ryan Murphy - is up for best comedy and fly-on-the-wall show Small Town Security has received a nomination for best reality series.

Oprah Winfrey's interview with How I Met Your Mother's Neil Patrick Harris and his partner David Burtka has also got a nod, for outstanding talk show episode.

The movie Cloud Atlas, Frank Ocean's Channel Orange album and the New Yorker magazine are also among the nominees.

The winners will be announced on March 16 in New York and at ceremonies in April and May in Los Angeles and San Francisco.
