Singer Michelle Heaton ‘dazed’ but recovering after undergoing double-mastectomy
SINGER Michelle Heaton is "dazed and confused" but recovering after undergoing a double-mastectomy.
The 33-year-old, who first found fame with band Liberty X, appeared to be in good form in hospital today after the potentially life-saving surgery.
And she has thanked her friends and supporters for all their well-wishes through this tough time.
Earlier the former You're A Star judge, who is married to Dubliner Hugh, posted a picture on a social media site of her last moments with daughter Faith before leaving for the hospital.
Michelle said: “My last cuddle with baby faith before my op.. don’t know when she will be able to cuddle up to me again.
The singer made the tough decision to have both her breasts removed after discovering four months ago that she had the BRCA2 cancer gene.
The gene increases her chances of developing breast cancer to 80pc.
She has described the decision to have both breasts removed as a “no brainer”.
Michelle was also told that she has a 30pc risk of developing ovarian cancer and has decided to have her ovaries removed, but only after she has had another child. She gave birth to baby Faith last January.
The reality TV star has been inundated with messages of support from her friends who are commending her bravery and her decision to go public about her health battle.
She also revealed how some members of the public have been taken aback by her speaking so publicly about such a private thing.
“There have been negative online comments about why I went public. I can accept some people may find my honesty OTT, but other women have contacted me to say they're being tested for the cancer gene after reading my story.”
“If my story saves just one life, that would be amazing,” she added.
The Newcastle mum recently gave an emotional interview on the Late Late Show where she explained to host Ryan Tubridy how the shocking news has affected her life.
