You know you've made it into the Simon Cowell circle of trust when you're being introduced to friends outside of the harem.

And Louis Walsh is a big part of that.

The X Factor judges have worked together for more than 10 years on the show and have a love/hate friendship that has played out in the tabloids over the years.

But their friendship is nothing compared to Cowell's latest bombshell - he is to become a first-time father with Lauren Silverman, who is now separated from one of his closest friends.

The trio enjoyed a dinner at Scalini restaurant in Chelsea, London, and marked the highlight of a week of intense public displays of affection between Cowell and Silverman.

Since the expectant mother sped up her divorce from her real estate developer husband Andrew, she and the reality TV show judge have been showing off their love across the globe - including on a Mediterranean yacht.

Just last week, Simon spoke for the first time about impending fatherhood, saying he is "proud" to become a dad.

"Things are changing in my life right now, for the better," he told the BBC, adding: "I'm proud to be a dad."

Simon, who previously dated Mezhgan Hussainy and Terri Seymour, said he had never contemplated the thought of fatherhood before.

"It's something I hadn't thought of before, but now I know I feel good about it," he admitted.

The X Factor boss added: "She (Lauren)'s a very special girl."

It is the first time he has opened up about becoming a father. He previously remained tight-lipped about the story and refused to comment directly when he appeared at a press conference in Los Angeles earlier this month ahead of the new series of the US version of The X Factor.

"I haven't read the newspapers," he joked when questioned about the reports.

Asked if his schedule would be affected by being a father, he replied: "I really haven't read the newspapers. Did I miss anything?"

He added: "Unfortunately, I have to keep this, for the moment, private. It's just one of those things. Thank you very much anyway."
