Rory McIlroy denies engagement claims after Caroline wears huge new diamond ring
GOLF superstar Rory McIlroy has this evening flatly denied suggestions that he and tennis player Caroline Wozniacki are engaged.
The rumour mill went into overdrive after the tennis star was spotted in Australia wearing what looks like an engagement ring.
But in brief a statement, McIlroy’s spokesperson has confirmed that the pair are not engaged, as had been reported in the Australian press.
“Rory is in Australia to support Caroline before he heads in January to Abu Dhabi,” she said.
Caroline (22) wore a large sapphire and diamond ring on her left hand as she arrived to play her first match in the Brisbane International competition
She was later seen removing the ring before she practised.
Caroline and the world’s No 1 golfer have been dating since 2011 after meeting at David Haye’s fight against Wladimir Klitschko in Germany
The couple, dubbed Wozzilroy, recently featured in Forbes magazine influential list of 30 under 30.
Caroline denied in November that she was engaged to the Co. Down golfer after Sascha Bajin, Serena Williams’ practice partner, jokingly tweeted congratulations to the couple.
In response, Caroline tweeted: “Can’t believe you started rumors like that! @BigSascha .. Not engaged yet, but you'll be the first to know if we do!;) hehe.”
The Danish player spoke to reporters at Brisbane airport ahead of her primary match and said:
“It's a new year and all I want to do is my best and we'll see what happens. Obviously I want to go far here and to do that
“I've never been to Brisbane so I want to start off well and this field gives the perfect preparation.”
