OLYMPIC boxer Kenny Egan has rekindled his relationship with his first love Karen O'Sullivan, it has been revealed.
The coach on Ireland's Fittest Families split from Karen shortly after his return from the Beijing Olympics in 2008. The couple had been dating for a year before Kenny found fame following his Olympic silver medal win.
Karen was featured heavily in media coverage at the time when thousands descended on their neighbourhood of Clondalkin. But the ensuing fame and attention put pressure on the couple who went their separate ways that October after posing for a spread in VIP magazine.
In his autobiography 'Kenny Egan – My Story' he unveiled the shocking story of the aftermath of his win, his addictions to porn, booze and escort girls as he slid to rock bottom.
“Sometimes I wish Beijing never happened because it seems cheap to sell yourself for just a single piece of silver," he said.
The boxer, who is now training to be an addiction counsellor, enjoyed flings with reality TV stars Bianca Gascoigne and Chanelle Houghton as well army officer Collette McBarron. He was also in a long term relationship with PR girl Sharon McHugh.
Now he has said that he hopes to become an addiction counsellor as his experiences can help him relate to others in the same situation he found himself.
And it seems the quote from Kenny on the wall of the High Performance gym on South Circular Road that reads: "It's okay to make mistakes, so long as you learn from them," is ringing true for him as he has confirmed his relationship with Karen is back on track: "Yes we are back in each other's lives and I'm a lucky man to have her," he told one reporter.
