Lara Pulver has praised the collaboration of British and American talent on new TV show Da Vinci's Demons.

The new fantasy drama, inspired by the life of artist and inventor Leonardo Da Vinci, was created by American writer and director David S Goyer, is co-produced by US company Starz and BBC Worldwide, has an all-British cast, was filmed in Wales and is set to air on Fox.

Sherlock star Lara, who plays the powerful Clarice Orsini in the show, insisted there should be less focus on British actors starring in US shows, and it should be seen as more of a team effort.

She said: "What's wonderful nowadays is there are so many international collaborations, and for David Goyer's vision to end up with a full British cast and crew filming in Swansea, it's extraordinary."

Blake Ritson, who co-stars as the evil Count Riario, admitted he was proud that the racy drama is packed with steamy sex scenes and dark violence.

"It's completely unflinching - whether it's sex, violence, fairly kind of interesting political landscape, mythological dealings, it doesn't shy away from anything. And that's what's exciting, it really hits you head on."

The drama, which also stars Laura Haddock and Tom Riley as Leonardo, sees the artist caught up in the feuding families of 15th-century Florence.

Da Vinci's Demons starts on Friday April 19, 2013 at 10pm on Fox.
