NEWSREADER Sharon Ni Bheolain appealed for privacy last night after revealing that she had split up from husband Kevin Cantrell.
The couple continue to share custody of their five-year-old daughter Faye, but their marriage is understood to have ended three years ago.
The 43-year-old RTE presenter married Mr Cantrell, who is a freelance cameraman, in 1999 and the couple lived in Clontarf on Dublin's northside. However, since the split in 2005 Mr Cantrell has moved out of the house.
Ms Ni Bheolain is understood to have kept the split out of the public eye as she concentrates on bringing up her daughter, and she insisted that it was not an acrimonious rift.
"We made the decision to separate three years ago and currently enjoy each other's respect and friendship," Ms Ni Bheolain said.
"We have a healthy co-parenting relationship and our priority is, and will always be, our beautiful daughter."
The spilt took place around the same time that the blonde presenter became a permanent fixture on RTE News Six One.
Ms Ni Bheolain began her career with RTE in 1994 presenting 'Nuacht', before she made the move to News 2 in 1997 and, in 2005, became the permanent co-presenter of the Six One news.
She previously worked on the RTE series 'Turas Teanga' which helped viewers learn the Irish language.
