There has been no secret of an ongoing feud between the pop divas since they joined the panel of the US talent show, with the pair exchanging insults during the season debut last week, and audition footage of a row previously being leaked online.

The latest episode has now revealed the fight began at the auditions in North Carolina after 20-year-old contestant Summer Cunningham from Georgia told the panel she had "done the country thing" for a while, implying it hadn't worked out for her.

Country star judge Keith Urban took offence at the comment, which led to Randy Jackson and Mariah debating the girl's style, with Mariah saying she could hear country in Summer's voice.

Nicki rolled her eyes and appeared bored throughout the discussion, but then objected: "Why are we, like, picking her apart because of, like, a country comment? I mean, you guys make comments about everybody in popular music all day, non-stop." Mariah retorted "Really, is that what I do?"

A row then escalated between Nicki and Mariah, with the rapper accusing the Hero singer of forcing the girl into labelling herself, before Nicki eventually stormed out.

Mariah exclaimed: "That was my move. I was gonna do that the next time she ragged on me. I'm done!"

In the behind-the-scenes footage of the row, which was leaked on TMZ.com in October, Nicki had fumed: "I told them, I'm not f***ing putting up with her f***ing highness over there," but this was cut from the episode.

Nicki has since said of her relationship with Mariah: "We're fine."
