MAEVE Binchy sold more than 40 million books around the world.

From 'Light a Penny Candle' in 1982, she penned 16 novels as well as several collections of short stories.

'Circle of Friends' (1990), which was arguably her most popular work, was adapted for the screen in 1995 starring Chris O'Donnell and Minnie Driver.

In 1998, 'Tara Road' received the prestigious Oprah Winfrey Book Club Selection, virtually guaranteeing a runaway sales success.

Other titles throughout her illustrious career included the popular novel 'Whitethorn Woods' (2006), and 'Heart and Soul' (2008).
