Love/Hate's Susan Loughnane hopes to follow in the footsteps of her former co-star Aidan Gillen and become established in America.
But the 24-year-old told The Diary that, unlike many young actresses, she doesn't want to make it big in the movies. She wants to stick with television.
Loughnane came to Stuart Carolan's RTÉ gangland drama as the girlfriend of Gillen's character John Boy in season two.
Now in the third series of the hit show, she said she'd love to work with Gillen again, but not as a movie co-star.
"Absolutely, the plan is to get to the US. But to be honest, I'm more drawn towards TV because there are so many great characters for women in television now.
"Sometimes you can get lucky and get a good role in movies, but a lot of the time the stronger female characters are in TV.
"I'm very picky and realistically they're the characters that I want to play."
The Dublin-born actress recently moved back to London and now splits her time between Ireland and the UK.
"I was in London before but I'd been getting so much work in Ireland that I moved back.
"But now I'm back over there and it's working really well. It took me a while to properly make the move, but I'm very happy."
She added: "There's nothing really tying me to Ireland, but I can still come back anytime as it's so close."
While she is aware that there may be more work for her abroad at the moment, Loughnane admitted that seeing how successful Irish actors have become internationally while still living in their native country is an extremely promising prospect.
"Aiden's incredible and I obviously follow his career to see how he's getting on.
"Things aren't really made as much in Hollywood any more, so you can base yourself wherever you want now. The likelihood is the set will be in Cape Town or Toronto.
"My ideal situation in 10 years' time would be to live down the country and fly to wherever I'm needed – I'd love that."
