ACTOR Michael Fassbender found it "awkward" filming love scenes with Penelope Cruz for his latest movie, as her husband Javier Bardem, pictured, was watching them on set.

Fassbender (36) appears opposite Cruz and Bardem in 'The Counselor', directed by Ridley Scott.

The Kerry man plays a lawyer in the film.

He said it was uncomfortable shooting sex scenes with Cruz – who plays his girlfriend Laura – because her real-life other half was in the room when the cameras rolled.

"It's always a bit awkward, really, doing scenes like that, especially because Javier was sitting at the end of the bed," Fassbender said.

'The Counselor' opens here next month. Fassbender is also generating Oscar buzz for his turn in '12 Years a Slave', opposite former 'Love/Hate' star, Ruth Negga.
