Kyle admits tears before cancer op
Tough TV inquisitor Jeremy Kyle admits he broke down in tears in front of doctors before his cancer surgery.
Kyle, who recently got the all-clear after treatment for testicular cancer, said his illness was a "defining" moment for him and his wife Carla.
He told Jonathan Ross: "It was horrible walking down to the theatre and saying goodbye to Carla, and I broke down in front of the anaesthetist, said to him, 'I think there are millions of people in Great Britain that would like to see me like this right now', and then don't remember anything else.
"I hadn't had the drugs at that point, I was crying my eyes out, I didn't know what to expect, I didn't know if it had spread, I didn't know quite what was going to happen to me."
Kyle said his on-screen persona does not work at home: "You know when I go home, let's be honest, I don't wear the trousers. There isn't a man in the United Kingdom who's married who's telling the truth who says that his wife isn't in charge. You've met Mrs Kyle, Mrs Kyle is in charge."
He said his show, which is famous for its confrontational style and use of lie detectors, is worth it if it helps one person.
He said: "Last year, we put over 300 people into detox and rehab programmes. When people say to me, 'well did all 300 change their lives?' - hopefully. But for me morally, and I've got four kids, if one does that, then that more than justifies what we do."
:: The Jonathan Ross Show is on ITV1 at 9.20pm tomorrow.
