A PROMOTIONAL television trailer for 'The Voice of Ireland' hit the rocks when one of the show's stars was left dazed in a surfing accident.
Shane McLaughlin took to the waves off the Co Donegal coast yesterday with mentor and keen surfer Kian Egan.
But the 28-year-old was soon back on dry land after taking a whack from his own surf board.
"The board just came back around and hit me in the side of the head," said Shane at Marble Hill Strand near his home town of Downings.
"I haven't surfed for a few months so I was a bit rusty. I was dazed and confused. It took me about five minutes to come back around to myself. I didn't feel well at all."
The accident happened as RTE were filming a trailer for this week's show, which is the competition's final.
Two of Shane's brothers, Letterkenny-based priest Fr Eamonn McLaughlin and another brother, Desmond, looked on anxiously as he came out of the water trying to catch his breath. Shane didn't need medical attention but wasn't able to get back into the water.
TV judge Kian, who surfs regularly in his home town of Strandhill, Co Sligo, believes the Donegal singer is the dark horse in Sunday's final.
"Shane has got stronger and stronger in the compet-ition and if he can repeat his performance from last week then he is in with a real chance and could go all the way," he said.
