Katy Perry says she had suicidal thoughts after splitting from Russell Brand
The singer has revealed she contemplated suicide after splitting from ex husband Russell Brand.
'I asked myself, "Should I continue living?"' Katy Perry reveals she had suicidal thoughts after splitting from the comedian.
In an interview when she was asked to explain the lyrics of the song 'By The Grace Of God' she says she questioned whether she should continue living.
"That song is evident of how tough it really was at a certain point. I asked myself, "Do I want to endure? Should I continue living?"' she tells Billboard magazine.
The self penned lyrics in question go as follows:
"Lay on the bathroom floor,Couldn't take it anymore, By the grace of God, I looked in the mirror and decided to stay.
"Wasn't gonna let love take me out, I thank my sister for keeping my head above the water, Every morning, I finally see myself again,
Universe calling my bluff.'
Katy has previously revealed that Brand ended their marriage by text message.
The couple split just 14 months after getting hitched in India in 2010.
In interviews, Brand has blamed the end of his marriage to Perry on fame - and having too many options.
He told Esquire magazine: "When I'm in a relationship I'm diligently monogamous and stick to the principles agreed on within that relationship. You've got to, I think. But it's going to be hard if I go into a monogamous relationship."
Katy has since gone on to have a relationship with singer John Mayer, and Brand has in recent weeks been linked to heiress Jemima Khan, but hinted at the weekend that he is single again.
