Katie's dark (chocolate) secret

Alice Brannigan (6) tests Katie Taylor's guard at the Lifestyle Sports store in Dundrum Town Centre, Dublin

KATIE Taylor has admitted she has a secret vice -- chocolate. The Olympic gold medallist said she doesn't stick to a strict diet regime and that her sweet tooth is her "downfall".

Her mother says she treats her with a box of Maltesers after a big fight.

But Katie said: "Every day is a cheat day for me (diet wise). I'm a chocoholic so I can't go a day without eating chocolate. It's a big downfall of mine.

"When I've to make my weight then I have to cut it out so that's why I'm cranky. I'm like a dog then, I'm a very hard person to be around then," she said.

"Nutrition is definitely something I need to improve on I think."

The Adidas ambassador was speaking at Lifestyle Sports in the Dundrum Town Centre in Dublin yesterday.

Bray-born Taylor (26) admitted that she has yet to make a final decision about whether to stay amateur or go professional.

"I have been offered a lot of great professional contracts . . . we were kind of surprised when we got an offer from Oscar De La Hoya.

"I was a small bit tempted because Oscar is the most successful promoter out there at the moment. I think my dad's still in talks with the Sports Council and De La Hoya . . . Money's not a huge factor with me.

"My heart's always been in amateur boxing . . . I don't think there's anything better than fighting for your country."

Taylor also congratulated fellow Ireland Olympics team mate John Joe Nevin on his recent move to sign up with British boxer Amir Khan.

"We wish him all the best, but I think all the lads would've loved for him to stay (as an amateur) . . . He's got his Olympic medal and that was his dream . . . Hopefully he makes a lot of money from it."
