Dwayne Johnson has revealed how he never abstained from tequila, even during his gruelling work-out for Hercules.
The actor, formerly known as The Rock, portrays the Greek demigod Hercules in Brett Ratner's action-adventure of the same name.
He admitted he just couldn't give up his favourite alcoholic beverage during his preparation, saying: " To prep as a demigod, in my opinion, is the occasional glass of tequila - sipped, not a shoot-up (shot). We're not back at college."
The 42-year-old also said he enjoys playing fallen heroes, following parts in Fast And Furious, Pain And Gain and Be Cool.
"I'm drawn to roles where the central character has something to overcome, may fall down but will get better, and get better in big ways by the end of the movie. And then galvanising everybody else around him," he said.
"One of the reasons why I wanted to take this role on and tell this version of Hercules is because there's such great value in not only this character, but in you and me. When you embrace the person you're born to be, we become super-powerful and I love that. We see that in this version."
Playing Hercules has been years in the making for Dwayne.
"When I first got to Hollywood about 14 or 15 years ago, Hercules was the first property I asked about. I didn't have the juice or power to make it happen back then. I kind of have a little bit today so it's cool we're able to sit here and talk about it."
Ian McShane, John Hurt and Rufus Sewell also star in Hercules, while Cristiano Ronaldo's girlfriend Irina Shayk plays Dwayne's screen girlfriend Megara.
The film opens in cinemas on July 25.
