Jessica Alba has insisted she puts being a wife and mother before everything else in her life.
The 31-year-old Sin City star has two daughters, four-year-old Honor and 20-month-old Haven with her producer husband Cash Warren, and as well as being an actress she runs The Honest Company, an online business selling non-toxic mother and baby accessories.
But Jessica told Glamour magazine: "When you have kids, you kind of think, 'I don't need to work, just to work.' I want to sink my teeth into a character that makes it worth not being with my kids, or not being at the office."
She added: "Having kids, having strong relationships with my husband, my friends, that is my priority.
"That's what really defines me, not a tabloid or a movie opening or a poster or an endorsement."
As part of her eco campaign work, Jessica lobbied congress in 2011 in support of the Safe Chemicals Act.
She confessed: "The nerves were terrible, but when you are talking about something you are passionate about, it makes it a lot easier.
"I was pretty adamant from a very early age that my voice mattered and that all women's voices mattered, and that we should participate in every political dialogue and scientific dialogue.
"Our kids are being affected by all these decisions. We should not have men telling us about what to do with our bodies, women should be making that decision."
