Irishman becomes unwitting star of Ellen show after taking his top off at her request
A YOUNG Irishman so impressed one of America’s top TV stars, he could be the image on her Christmas Cards this year.
Craig Magee was on his way to New Zealand via Los Angeles when he became the star of the Ellen DeGeneres Show.
Ms DeGeneres was in the studio and asking people via an outside broadcast unit to sponsor her new star, installed just a week ago.
And then she joked that Craig could donate some cash or his t-shirt to help sponsor her sidewalk star.
The host was left almost speechless when the Craig, 25, from Letterkenny, quickly whipped off his t-shirt.
Ellen said: “You are my new favourite person. You are fantastic.”
She then asked him to sit down beside her Hollywood star to have his picture taken.
Then Ms DeGenres said: “That’s my Christmas card.”
Ellen also admired Craig’s t-shirt of Jim Morrisson from The Doors but the Donegal labourer admitted he didn’t know who the iconic singer on his garment was.
After his appearance on the show, Craig and girlfriend Jayne McCanny were whisked to the Warner Studios in Los Angeles where they met the star.
He also received a goodie bag full of gifts including a Google Tablet computer.
“I still can’t believe I was topless on the Ellen DeGeneres Show. I’m living the dream,” said Craig.
“It was incredible. It was my first day in Hollywood and I just didn’t expect this to happen.
“Hollywood is amazing but there's some very peculiar people about! My stripping antics couldn't hold a candle to what I've seen.
“Ellen was really nice and genuine. She was very grateful for adding to her show. Also on the show she got a homeless girl to do a sound test for her on the street and ended up taking here back to the studio with us and giving here a makeover and gave here $2000 worth of cloths vouchers.
“We were also lucky enough to meet Dave Matthews band and he signed a CD for us and for our "troubles" Ellen gave us a Google nexus tablet computer, a hundred dollar visa gift card and some other bits and bobs. It was great.”
He does have one regret though, adding: “It all happened so quickly I just forgot to ask for a picture with Ellen. Maybe I’ll do that the next time I’m passing through LA.”
