HOLLYWOOD veteran Tom Cruise may have more Irish connections than first anticipated – as it now transpires he could be distantly related to Ryan Tubridy.
The broadcaster suggested that his family and that of the 50-year-old 'Mission Impossible' star could be connected through marriage.
Tubridy's family tree states that the presenter's grand-aunt on his father's side, Temperance Ayde Curran, married a William Cruise – a possible cousin of the famous actor.
Cruise is currently on a promotional tour for his new movie 'Oblivion' and is in Dublin today for the Irish screening of the film with his co-star Olga Kurylenko and director Joseph Kosinki.
He will join Tubridy (39) on a closed set studio at RTE this afternoon to pre-record an interview for this Friday's 'Late Late Show'.
"After seeing 'Oblivion', we were talking about Tom's search for his Irish connections when I remembered that my grand-aunt married a Cruise, much to the amusement of the 'Late Late' team of course," Tubridy told the Irish Independent.
"I'm not sure if we're cousins or not, but the genealogical search continues. "I checked with my mum and I was born with a head full of jet black hair – so it must be true."
Cruise has ancestry on his father's side from Kilteevan, Co Roscommon, as well as in Dublin.
A source told the Irish Independent that security will be "very tight" at tonight's Irish premiere of 'Oblivion', to be held at the Savoy cinema on O'Connell Street in Dublin. An anti-Scientology group are planning to stage a protest outside the cinema.
