Hunky Irish farmers give One Direction a run in the calendar charts for 2014
ONE DIRECTION are facing an unlikely challenge for the number one spot in the Christmas calendar charts, from a bunch of unknown Irish farmers.
The 1D boys' 2014 wall chart is currently top of the Irish calendar charts for the third year in a row.
But the mega-successful boyband, who have two other wall charts in the Top 10 list, are being given a run for their money in the race for the Christmas number one, by this year's Irish Farmers' compilation.
The farming-themed wall chart, which features hunky country lads in tongue-in-cheek, topless poses, has charted in second place.
That's its highest-ever position and up four places from last year.
The Calendar Club, which compiled the list after studying sales across its 22 stores in Ireland, said the chart is a good barometer of who is likely to be successful next year.
Which means that teen pop idol Justin Bieber's popularity could be on the wane, having slipped down from number one spot in 2010 to number 20 this year. Jedward, having hit second place two years ago, have failed to make the top 50 in this year's list.
However, the huge popularity of RTE's Love/Hate is reflected in the new chart, with a debut calendar devoted to one of the hit drama's characters, Robert Sheehan, in 11th place.
And the phenomenal success of comedy Mrs Brown's Boys has helped their new calendar notch 13th spot in Ireland -- and fifth position in the UK.
The only other home-produced calendars to feature in the Top 20 were the Irish Vintage Tractor wall chart in tenth position, and Wild Ireland in 19th place.
